Your stereo is also expertly used here putting sounds accurately between, behind and outside of your speakers.
The front cover is the same from issue to reissue to reissue and is no real help at all. That just about sums up this album. Sound quality is mediocre; for a $22.98 list price in the 1990s, a remastering should have been mandatory. Although they are not one of the better-known San Francisco bands to have emerged from the ballroom circuit of the late '60s and early '70s, It's a Beautiful Day were no less memorable for their unique progressive rock style that contrasted well with the Bay Area psychedelic scene. Chances are the dealer bought a copy while visiting Holland, brought it home and sold it at his store. It's a Beautiful Day was a band formed on a beautiful day in San Francisco in 1967, and was the brainchild of violinist and vocalist David LaFlamme. I had seen the 1979 version, which featured the same cover, and the 1981 version with that godawful cover). It is noted on the back cover on bottom right corner. sticker in the same area. This is an amazing record, but why Columbia Canada chose to slap this horrible cover on this reissue is beyond me. David has been in a band called Orkustra with Bobby Beausoleil. The band was a victim of Matthew Katz (as was Moby Grape), so the band went through many bewildering lineup changes, looking like Patti Santos was the only constant member (until her passing in 1989, so recent versions were obviously in David LaFlamme's hand).
It's amusing my dad thought this version was illegal to sell in the States, as he wasn't exactly an expert on such things. I don't understand why people don't post the full artwork so others can do a decent comparison. This is the 1/2 speed mastered pressing. One of the most distinct characteristics of It's a Beautiful Day is their instrumentation. It should also have a Certified Limited Edition numbered white S.F.S. Led by David LaFlamme (flute/violin/vocals) and his wife, Linda LaFlamme (keyboards), the six-piece unit on this album vacillates between light and ethereal pieces such as the lead-off cut, "White Bird," to the heavier, prog rock-influenced "Bombay Calling." Is this the 1/2 Speed Master? Avoid this rip-off. It's because the label didn't intend this version to be sold in the States (besides they figured that tons of American pressings can be found at just about any given American record store), meaning US dealers couldn't just order up some copies to sell at the store.
The vocalisation between the two singers is easily destinguishable just like each string is to one another. Although they are not one of the better-known San Francisco bands to have emerged from the ballroom circuit of the late '60s and early '70s, It's a Beautiful Day were no less memorable for their unique progressive rock style that contrasted well with the Bay Area psychedelic scene.

It's a Beautiful Day remains as a timepiece and evidence of how sophisticated rock & roll had become in the fertile environs of the San Francisco music scene. The prominence of David LaFlamme -- former violin soloist with the Utah Symphony and original member of Dan Hicks & His Hot Licks -- adds a refinement to It's a Beautiful Day's sound. My mom got a copy in the mid '80s.
Not that I was around in 1960s San Francisco, as I wasn't even alive in 1969, but the fact as a small child my dad bought a copy of this album (around 1979), a Dutch pressing on the CBS label. This was the original lineup of David LaFlamme, the first Linda LaFlamme (he married a different Linda later on), Val Fuentes, Patti Santos, Mitchell Hollman, and Hal Wagenet. Taken from Made In Heaven, 1995. Likewise, the intricate melodies -- mostly composed by the LaFlammes -- are structured around the band's immense virtuosity, a prime example being the exquisitely haunting harpsichord-driven "Girl With No Eyes." The almost chant-like quality of the track slowly crescendos into an hypnotic and dreamlike sonic journey -- led by LaFlamme's brilliant violin work. Said when she opened up the gatefold a pot seed rolled out. It's A Beautiful Day. The other members were David's wife Linda (keyboards), Pattie Santos (vocals), Hal Wagenet (guitar), Mitchell Holman (bass) and Val Fuentes (drums). The same can be said of the languidly eerie "Bulgaria."
The instruments and vocals have a great sense of space in the soundstage and convey emotion and timing just right. It's a Beautiful Day is an American band formed in San Francisco, California, in 1967, featuring vocalist and violinist David LaFlamme and his wife, Linda. No mention on the LP label at all! What an excellently recorded piece of 60s folk psych. By virtue of being a Bay Area fixture in the late '60s, It's a Beautiful Day could also easily double as a hippie dance band -- which they can also execute with great aplomb -- as the wildly up-tempo "Time Is" amply proves.
